چکیده

Bacteria are often maligned as the cause of human and animal diseases. Despite this characterisation, certain bacteria such as Acetobacter sp. and lactic acid bacteria were found to produce polysaccharides, function as antibiotics and find use as food additives (Sutherland, 2001). Over the past 20 years, a new class of microbial product – microbial polysaccharide – has been grown for industrial importance (Sutherland, 2001; De Vuyst et al., 2001). These microbial polysaccharides can be divided into capsular polysaccharides (CPS) and slime Exo-polysaccharides (EPS) TAXONOMICAL IDENTITY AND POLYSACCHARIDE PRODUCED BY Bacillus SPECIES ISOLATED FROM OLD AGED MEDICINAL DECOCTIONS

Screening of Alginate Lyase-Producing Bacteria and Optimization of Media Compositions for Extracellular Alginate Lyase Production

Background: Alginate is a linear polysaccharide consisting of guluronate (polyG) and mannuronate (polyM) subunits. Methods: In the initial screening of alginate-degrading bacteria from soil, 10 isolates were able to grow on minimal medium containing alginate. The optimization of cell growth and alginate lyase (algL) production was carried out by the addition of 0.8% alginate and 0.2-0.3 M NaCl ...

Isolation, Characterization and Bioactivities of an Extracellular Polysaccharide Produced from Streptomyces sp. MOE6.

A Streptomyces strain was isolated from soil and the sequence of 1471 nucleotides of its 16S rDNA showed 99% identity to Streptomyces sp. HV10. This newly isolated Streptomyces strain produced an extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) composed mainly of glucose and mannose in a ratio of 1:4.1, as was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), HPLC and ¹H-NMR. The antioxidant a...

Isolation and characterization of type IV group B Streptococcus capsular polysaccharide.

An antigenically distinct serotype, type IV, has recently been added to the recognized serotypes of group B streptococci (GBS). We isolated and purified the capsular polysaccharide antigen from a prototype type IV GBS strain. The type IV capsular polysaccharide formed a precipitin line with rabbit antiserum to type IV GBS organisms but not with antiserum to organisms of GBS serotype Ia, Ib, II,...

Mycelium and polysaccharide production of Agaricus blazei Murrill by submerged fermentation.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Over the last decade, Agaricus blazei Murrill has been studied and developed as a novel functional food in Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan. Due to the low yields, the fruiting bodies of A. blazei Murrill are relatively expensive, and a cheap and stable source of A. blazei Murrill mycelium for commercial purposes is highly desirable. Culture media and conditions were inves...
